Servicing an EV or hybrid – what’s different

The service requirements for electric and hybrid vehicles differ from those of a conventional combustion engine, but that doesn’t mean there’s less to do. While EVs don’t need oil changes or exhaust work, there’s a specific set of systems and components that require regular attention:

• Battery health checks – assessing capacity, condition, and charge management
• Brake system servicing – regenerative braking systems require different inspection criteria to conventional setups
• Coolant and thermal management systems – critical for battery performance and longevity
• Tyres and suspension – EVs are heavier than equivalent combustion vehicles and wear these components accordingly
• 12V battery and DC-DC converter – often overlooked, but a frequent cause of electrical faults and starting issues
• Software and system diagnostics – identifying fault codes and flagging any control unit issues

For hybrid vehicles, the combustion side of the drivetrain still requires all of its usual maintenance, including oil, filters, and the manufacturer’s scheduled service items.

We use the Bosch diagnostic suite alongside manufacturer-level tooling for the brands we specialise in, giving us the depth of access needed to read and interpret EV and hybrid systems properly.

As a Bosch Car Service centre, we can also draw on Bosch’s wider technical resource, including direct support from Bosch’s UK and German teams, when a fault requires additional investigation.
